Coyote Hills Family Biking

Coyote Hills Regional Park is my family’s favorite park to bike in Fremont. There are dirt and paved trails, flat and hilly trails which is great for beginner and more intermediate cyclists. Coyote Hills is a great connector park to Don Edwards NWF and Alameda Creek Regional Trail.  We are at Coyote Hills about 2-3 times a month as sometimes even more! Coyote Hills is not only a great park to hike and bike in but it is a great to learn about the original indigeous peoples, The Ohlone. As well as a great place to simply enjoy nature and recreate responsibly.

Trail Suggestions

For beginners: For newer cyclists, I highly suggest staying on the flat parts of Coyote Hills in the marshland area. The Tuibun Trail which runs along Patterson Road is a great paved flat trail which takes you all the way near the Visitor Center.  The Chochenyo Trail, D.U.S.T. Trail and Willow Trail Muskrat Trail are in the marshlands (non- hilly side) are excellent trails to take beginner riders since these are very flat trails. The map below is one of the regular routes I ride with my 5 year old son.

More Challenging Trails:  If you have more experienced riders, Lizard Rock Trail off of Chochenyo Trail has a little bit of elevation.  Bayview Loop goes around the hills which is a roughly paved trail that is “rolling hills” type. Children who have more bike control and experience will enjoy Bayview Loop quite a lot. At the north end of Bayview Loop is a connector to Alameda Creek Regional Trail, which is technically Red Hill Trail   This is a somewhat short “steep” connector trail to Alameda Creek so proceed with caution, there are signs but I know a dozen of kids who have crashed here including my own son.

Getting There: Visit Coyote Hills Regional Park Map and Directions. There is a parking fee if you park inside the park, but there is a dirt parking lot just outside the park which is free and you can bike in for free.

Park Facilities: Flushing Toilets at the Visitor Center, but be aware of Visitor Center Hours.  There portable and pit toilets near the Park Entrance Kiosk, Quarry Staging Area and Dairy Glen Campground.  Water is available at the park and there is cell service.

DUE TO COVid-19, PLEASE CHECK EACH Park website FOR TRAIL CLOSURES AND IF BATHROOM/WATER FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE. REMEMBER To PACK OUT YOUR TRASH.
